Tips

ORAT does not backup your data! Please make sure you have a backup strategy, and that you do regular, thorough backups of your data.

Viruses are bad. Viruses are very very bad.

Please make sure you have installed virus protection on any computer you use at home, and update your virus info AT LEAST weekly. This is especially important for Windows users, as the number and severity of Windows viruses has been nearly crippling this year. The University provides Viruscan (Windows) and Virex (Mac) to all members of the campus. ORAT has set lab and faculty computers to auto-update frequently. To find out about the latest virus threats, visit the alerts page of the University Help Desk.

The University's Microsoft Campus Agreement allows faculty and staff to have one copy of Microsoft Office for doing ISU work at home. ORAT cannot provide the media for installing the software. Instead, contact Techzone on the 2nd floor of the Bone Student Center. You can also pick up your copy of iTools (a collection of site licensed software for use by ISU students, staff, and faculty that is provided annually) at Techzone.

The University provides a number of software applications to the campus community by purchasing a licenses for the entire campus. Much of this is available on the iTools CD, produced annually. If you have a laptop and wish to connect to the internet in one of the wireless locations on campus, you will need to configure your computer for use on the ISU wireless network. Information can be found on the Telecommunications and Networking Web site. The aegis client you will need to install if you are a windows user is linked here.

To connect to University resources such as email (via a client such as Eudora or Apple's Mail) or datastore from off campus, you will need to download and install the Cisco VPN client. Since our director Shari can never find this link when she needs it, we are providing it here.
