CFA Computer Advisory Meeting
Wednesday, October 13, 2004
Present: Kuntz,
Bushell, Zeck, Jones, Johnson, Tannura, Chen, Rankin, Stokes, Browder,
DeCremer, Yeager, Iorio, Collier
- Dave
and Shari presented information about protocols under discussion to protect
the secutity of ISUnet. Scott
pointed out that most of the problems being targeted are Windows
issues. Requiring users to
authenticate before sending email will likely be required before the
spring semester. A discussion
of the problems and benefits of VPN ensued.
- Shari
reminded the group of the importance of keeping oneีs ULID and password
private, and indicated ORAT would not provide assistance to persons to
whom faculty, staff or students have given their ULIDs and passwords for
the purpose of maintaining a website.
- The
web policy subgroup promised in the spring will not be formed until there
is clarification within the College of lines of responsibility for the
web.
- We
discussed upgrading CVA 45 with G5 iMacs over the holiday break.
- Scott
raised the possibility of changing CVA 50 to a Mac lab when it comes
time to upgrade it. After
some discussion of the pros and cons of this idea, Shari suggested we
explore that idea further, and reminded the group that CTSG would need to
be part of that discussion.
- Scott
asked that instructions for accessing faculty folders on the web (mapping
drives) be posted where faculty can reference them.
See you next month, unless a pressing issue arises before
then!
