The purposes of Illinois State University's Normal Editions Workshop are outlined as follows:

1. N.E.W. provides collaborative custom printing services for artists throughout the United States. Artists of regional, national, and international reputation visit I.S.U. and produce original, limited editions. Dennis Oppenheim, Donald Lipski, Kiki Smith, Mark Innerst, John Himmelfarb, David Wojnarowicz, Buzz Spector, Garo Antreasian, Robert Stackhouse, and Sidney Goodman are among those artists, in addition to some of the art faculty at I.S.U., who have collaborated with the N.E.W. staff to produce editions of prints.

2. As a result of these services, Illinois State University students within the School of Art have an opportunity to work with and to observe visiting practicing artists. Lecture, apprenticeship, and student exchange are part of this program thus creating a positive and unique atmosphere for students and artists within a professional workshop situation.

3.Two impressions from each edition printed at N.E.W. become part of the permanent collection at the Illinois State University Galleries. Of these two impressions, one print is designated for archival purposes--i.e. to be housed exclusively in the I.S.U. print collection--and the other print is designated for study collections and possible distribution throughout the state.

4. Many of these study impressions also are organized for traveling exhibitions. Selected publications by N.E.W. have been exhibited regionally and nationally in commercial galleries, institutional museums, and other cultural centers.
