Teaching: Professor of Art, University of Massachusetts Amherst Statement: "Through my art works, I pay homage to what I find beautiful in nature. I create places where I would like to be. I have become increasingly mesmerized by the routine beauty of nature, especially its varieties of light. I have an enormous appetite for looking--for consideration and making use of what I see. My images have always been bvased on natural sources, although the recent pieces more obviously refer to invented spaces. These places have been reorganized and manipulated by imagination and discoveries made along the way. While working in the studio I try to concentrate on the doing, the shaping of the piece, rather than on what is being said. These elements all play a role in the resulting works, which are a visual record of the process. |
