The lecture and reception are free and open to the public.
Hector Duarte is a painter, printmaker, and muralist building upon the Mexican muralist tradition and the community mural movement. He studied mural painting at David Alfaro Siqueiros’ workshop in Cuernavaca, Mexico. Mr. Duarte has worked on over 40 murals in the Chicago area and in Mexico. Awards include a National Endowment for the Arts Regional Artists’ Project Grant (1994); Chicago Dept. of Cultural Affairs’ Community Arts Assistance Grants (1989-93); and numerous commissions and public art awards.
Sponsored by: the Office of Student Affairs, MECCPAC (Multi-Ethnic
Cultural and Co-Curricular Programming Advisory Committee), the School
of Art, and Normal Editions Workshop, Duarte’s residency will consist of
a public lecture on his current work, discussions in classes, interacting
with students, faculty and staff, and a collaborative print project.
