Master of Music - Composition

Designed with sufficient flexibility, students may focus on compositional, theoretical, or pedagogical studies.

The theory/composition sequence provides advanced instruction for students who seek careers as composers, music theorists, or music theory teachers. It provides the academic training necessary for doctoral-level study in music theory and/or composition while affording the opportunity to develop the skills required for teaching in postsecondary institutions.

Entrance Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum undergraduate cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.6 for the last 60 hours at the undergrad level
  • Submission of placement credential file OR three professional letters of recommendation
  • Present a live performance audition (taped auditions may he submitted for provisional admission)
  • A placement examination in theory and music history/literature must be taken before the first semester of enrollment
