Concerts on the Quad

The School of Music presents its annual summer concerts under the stars!

During the summer, the Illinois State University School of Music hosts a concert series showcasing a wide variety of musical acts, from concert bands to jazz combos. These concerts are presented in conjunction with the Illinois Shakespeare Festival. You can download the brochure or poster of this summers concerts.

All concerts are free and take place on the east side of Cook Hall ("The Castle") on the Illinois State University Quad. All events start at 7:00 p.m. and concertgoers should bring lawn chairs or blankets for seating.

  • June 30, 2008 -- Maxwell Street Klezmer Band. Listen to an organic fusion of styles as performed by one of the Midwest's premier Klezmer bands.

  • July 7, 2008 -- An Evening of Chamber Music. Enjoy the sound of strings featuring the Illinois State University faculty and guest artists.

  • July 14, 2008 -- Fiddleback. Check out some swinging, grooving, and hot fiddling by this wonderful and creative ensemble.

  • July 21, 2008 -- Eleventh Annual Jazz Festival. Join Illinois State's jazz faculty and guests for a hot evening of cool jazz.

  • July 28, 2008 -- Singing Under the Stars. Illinois State University faculty and guests sing favorites from the operatic and Broadway stages.

In the event of inclement weather, concerts will be moved to the concert hall in the Center for the Performing Arts located on the southeast corner of the Quad, next to Williams Hall. Listen to radio stations WGLT (89.1 FM), WBNQ (101.5 FM), or WJBC (1230 AM) after 5 p.m. on concert days for announcements of site changes.
