Choral Area

Illinois State University's School of Music features a wide range of vocal ensembles which have recently grown and diversified! All ensembles are open to students of all academic majors. To enhance the variety of choral experiences through-out one’s college career, the configuration of choirs now includes:

Concert Choir

Concert Choir is an SATB auditioned ensemble of 45 singers performing high-quality contemporary and standard choral repertoire.  They perform major works and chamber works with orchestra.   A strong emphasis is placed upon musical literacy.   They tour high schools annually, and in 2007 will take a European tour. 

Women's Chamber Chorale

The Women's Chamber Chorale is a newly formed, auditioned ensemble for women desiring an advanced choral experience.   Challenging and interesting repertoire are presented.  The ensemble will be limited to 30-35 voices.  The Women’s Chorale plans to tour local high schools.

Women's Choir

The Women's Choir an ensemble for women that love to sing, singing a variety of repertoire both standard and popular.

Men's Choir

The Men's Choir is a newly formed ensemble just for guys in the tradition of the mid-west “glee club”. A wide variety of repertoire will be performed.

Civic Chorale

The Civic Chorale is an ensemble that provides a vital link between the university and community as a “town and gown” organization.   There is a wide variety of ability levels.   Performances include those with the ISU Symphony Orchestra of major works, as well as collaborations with the Illinois Symphony Orchestra and Chorus.   All students, faculty, and community members are welcome.  Civic Chorale will also be involved in the 2007 European tour.

Madrigal Singers

The Madrigal Singers are a 16-voice auditioned ensemble which serves as the main entertainment at the annual ISU Madrigal Dinners in November and December.  Madrigals is highly selective and in the spring semester performs challenging a cappella choral repertoire.   They boast a rich and long tradition, having started in 1956.

Encore!

Encore! is an auditioned acappella ensemble performing jazz and popular music.   They perform frequently at ISU concerts and various jazz festivals.   They perform both acappella and with a small combo.

The Annual Illinois State University Madrigal Festival

This annual event gives high school madrigal ensembles from throughout the state the opportunity to come together and perform in a university setting. Details can be found on the ISU Madrigal Festival web site.
