Academic Advising
Who advises music students?
I want to change my major to music. Who do I contact?
If you are a current music major or minor and wish to change to a different major or minor in music, you will need to go to the Music Office, Centennial East 213, to pick-up a Change of Major form. Please note, your primary applied instructor must sign the form as well as the Director of the School of Music.
If you are another major outside of music, or a new student to Illinois State University, please review the admission and audition requirements and complete a 'Request for Major Change' using iCampus.
When should I see my academic advisor?
It is best to meet with your academic advisor at least three to four weeks prior to your registration date, or if you are uncertain about your future academic or professional career choice.
What should I bring to an advisement appointment?
Students should bring their catalog, their intended courses for the subsequent semester, their plan of study, and a list of specific questions you would like answered.
I am uncertain what area of music I want to go into, but know I would like music for a career. What do I do?
Choosing a career can be a daunting task. The Career Center has tools available to assist you in identifying a major for you. Another option is to utilize the Find Your Major Web site.
