Undergraduate Music Major and Minor Admission Procedures

Undergraduate Music Major and Minor Audition procedures:

I. Audition

All students wishing to major or minor in music must perform a classical music audition on your primary instrument or voice. Refer to the repertoire recommendations (available in pdf format) for a sample list of appropriate selections.

II. Sight Reading

Students may be asked to sight read a brief musical example of moderate difficulty.

III. Piano Placement

Students who have previously taken piano lessons and have some piano proficiency will take a placement. Piano placement results are not used for entrance purposes, but merely to ascertain the appropriate entry level of incoming students. There is no advanced preparation required for this placement.

IV. Theory & Aural Skills Placement Exam -- Trasnfer Students Only

Transfer students who are currently enrolled in, or have completed one or more college music theory and/or aural skills classes must complete a Theory & Aural Skills Placement Exam to be scheduled on the same day as the audition. In preparation for the exam, students should review the skills learned in their college theory and aural skills classes.
