Exhibition Guidelines

Occassionally, University Galleries' Gallery Advisory Committee announces a call for proposals for exhibitions to be reviewed and selected. Proposed shows can be either single-artist exhibitions or group exhibitions, and may be curated by either faculty or students. In the case of a call for proposals, the following guidelines are to be observed.

Guidelines are as follows:

  • (A) Faculty-curated exhibition proposals
    1. Written proposal outlining project
    2. Slides or any other visual documentation of proposed project
    3. Works list
  • (B) Student-curated exhibition proposals
    1. Written proposal outlining project
    2. Slides or any other visual documentation of proposed project
    3. Must include letters of support written by 2 faculty member "sponsors"
    4. Works list

Each exhibition will be on view for one week (Tuesday through Saturday).

Your written proposal should be no longer than one page. Briefly describe the work and the exhibition's concept. Include slides and a slide list for all work that will be shown. (Visual documentation may also be in the form of photographs, CD-Roms, DVDs or videotapes.) This list should include artist name(s), media, dates, and dimensions. Slides should include the same information and have a red dot placed in the lower left corner for projection. If a work exists only in concept, provide appropriate materials/models that will aid the Gallery Advisory Committee in visualizing the proposal. If you are proposing a group exhibition, be sure to state the number of artists, list their names, and provide visual documentation for each.

For student-curated show proposals, include letters written by two faculty members demonstrating their willingness to support and guide you/your group as submitting student(s). Sponsors are expected to advise on installation, aid with hanging work, and assist in drafting a show postcard, along with other miscellaneous duties.

If your exhibition is selected, the Gallery Advisory Committee will grant you an exhibition time. Exhibitors are responsible for shipping costs, any advertisement costs (postcards, posters), installation labor and supplies (hardware, paint, etc), and de-installation. University Galleries staff will provide installation advice as needed and lighting assistance.
