Guidelines for MFA and BFA Exhibitions
Galleries II and III are available to all graduating MFA and BFA candidates as sites for their comprehensive/thesis exhibitions. The following procedures must be followed in order to accommodate all students who wish to use the gallery. These guidelines will be enforced by the gallery staff and your supervising professors.
- Each student is given a gallery for a period of one week beginning Monday morning. Installation of your exhibit can begin Monday morning at 9:00, and we request that you work during gallery hours only. If it is absolutely necessary to work Sunday or Monday evening, please contact one of the gallery staff to make arrangements. Exhibitions close on Saturday at 4:00 pm. You are responsible for returning the gallery to proper condidition by spackling and repainting holes for the next artist. In order to allow ample time for the next person to mount their exhibition, we prefer that you take down your show by 4:00 p.m. Sunday, and thus it is suggested that you begin at 12:00 on Sunday. Please plan and use your time wisely so we can avoid conflicts.
- The gallery will provide the following:
- Drywall compound for holes and gallery white paint for normal patching and painting. If you need to repaint the entire space you will need to purchase your own paint. (We will supply you with the proper paint formula if needed.) Any other paint colors for use in the gallery must be cleared through gallery prior to painting.
Pedestals are stored behind the curtain in the small lobby between Galleries I and II. All other installation tools and materials are your responsibility.
- A $40.00 deposit is required for the use of our kitchen facilities. Kitchen area must be cleaned if you use it, all paint materials must be cleaned, all tools must be returned to their places, and any other modifications made must be rectified, if this is not done, your deposit will be not be returned.
- The gallery staff will be happy to advise you on the installation and design of your exhibition, but they are ultimately your responsibility. You should contact the gallery at least one month in advance of your opening to discuss difficult or unusual installations.
- Let someone from the gallery staff assist you with the gallery lighting. Our track lighting system uses many different kinds of lights which each have their own ways of being moved, taken off, and turned on and off.
- All title card signage for individual works in your exhibition is your responsibility. If you wish to paint your name and exhibition title on an area of wall, we will provide an overhead projector for you - just bring in a transparency print-out of your title. Vinyl lettering is available at Kinkos or The Copy Shop.
- Remember, if you have any problems or questions you can always consult the gallery staff.
