Photography Program in Studio Arts

The photography program emphasizes the development of conceptual ability, a personal esthetic and, critical skills and strategies.

Among the goals of the program are to prepare students for careers as independent studio artists or for graduate study in fine art photography.

Photography students are offered courses in basic black and white, color, and digital photography as well as Social Documentary Photography, History of Photography and Advanced Photography--a portfolio class. In addition, Special Topics courses on thematic content such as Studio Lighting, Alternative Processes, Historical and Theoretical Readings, Interdisciplinary Approach to Photography, The Body, Biography/Autobiography and Social Action are offered on a rotating basis . Students who are in the photography program for five or six semesters should be able to take all courses offered and will have acquired a strong technical background and conceptual framework in fine art photography.
