Opportunities for Non-Majors
Music Ensembles
All School of Music ensembles (choirs, orchestras, bands) are open to all university students by audition. All ensembles are registered courses for which grades are given and tuition is paid. Auditions occur just prior to the beginning of the semester. Music is provided for instrumental musicians. Vocalists must prepare one piece from memory.

In addition, non-major students may register for group instruction piano, or group voice lessons. Course descriptions are available in the Undergraduate Catalog.
Theatre Productions
Any Illinois State student enrolled for 6 or more hours may audition for School of Theatre productions after achieving second semester freshman status (9 or more completed hours).To audition, a student must be in good academic standing as stipulated in the University catalog.
Auditions for Theatre productions are held at the beginning of each semester. A sign-up sheet for audition times is available in the School of Theatre office during the last week of classes of the previous semester. Contact the School of Theatre office at 309-438-8783 for more details.
Additionally, auditions are held throughout the year for various Freestage, improv, and independent productions. Watch for notices on the Theatre Callboard on the second floor of Centennial West.
Dance Productions
Any Illinois State University student may audition to be part of the Illinois State Dance Theatre, regardless of his or her major. Those auditions take place during the second week of classes in the Fall semester of each year. Students wishing to be considered in the Spring semesters may do so by invitation of the Artistic Director.
Practicum
Illinois State students can earn course credit while participating in a variety of activities in theatre and dance productions through Theatre Practicum. This course involves hands-on practical work in a variety of areas including costume crew, set crew, light crew, box office, and ushering. After registering for Practicum, students must sign up for a particular assignment during the first week of classes. Contact the School of Theatre for details.
Performances/Exhibits
The College of Fine Arts produces hundreds of music, theatre and dance events each year in the Center for the Performing Arts and other spaces around campus. The Box Office is located in the Center for the Performing Arts lobby. Advance tickets are recommended for most events.
World-class art exhibits with contemporary and global focus are presented in the University Galleries, located in the Center for Visual Arts.
Student Organizations
